The apprehension of investigating agency that the applicant may tamper with evidence is without any basis,” it said. “The applicant is resident of Delhi and has deep roots in society, his family is based in India and his properties are also situated in India…. Thus considering the overall facts and circumstances of the case, the applicant is allowed to visit only Spain from September 20 to October 8, 2019,” it added. The court directed him to submit Rs 25 lakh fixed deposit receipt (FDR) with it. It further directed him to inform the court about his arrival within 24 hours and not to tamper with any evidence or try to influence witnesses in the case. “The applicant shall join investigation within 72 hours after being informed by the Investigating Officer. Applicant to submit copy of passport and visa after his arrival from Spain,” the court said. The ED had on Thursday told the court that Vadra may hamper the probe if allowed to travel to Spain and other European countries. The application was an attempt to tamper the evidence and meet the co-accused, it had said. The ED’s submission was, however, opposed by Vadra’s counsel and senior advocate K T S Tulsi, who said that the agency’s allegations were unfounded and that the accused will return. Vadra had on September 9 moved court seeking permission to travel abroad. The court had in June allowed Vadra to travel to the US and Netherlands for six weeks on account of health reasons. It, however, had not allowed Vadra to go to the United Kingdom. The ED had expressed apprehension that the accused may destroy the evidence if allowed to go to the UK.last_img

Metrolinx spending in question

00:00:00 | 00:00:00::Projekktor V1.3.09 There’s a call for Ontario’s Auditor General to look into Metrolinx spending.Reports say the transit authority bought $27,000 worth of Buffalo Bills tickets, and also sponsored the Toronto International Film Festival for more than $30,000. NDP MPP Rosario Marchese is demanding the probe.Metrolinx has, however, released a statement saying:“Metrolinx did not pay for tickets. The Bills tickets came as a part of a promotional partnership with GO Transit that did not require any payment. The TIFF tickets were included as part of a sponsorship agreement and again were not purchased.”“The public, when they look at this and see this says, ‘I don’t get it. I ain’t going to this TIFF, I ain’t seeing that football game. Somebody else is, and what is the purpose of this?’ And I think that is what we need to worry about. Will it have an effect of Metrolinx if the Auditor General were to do a value for money audit? I think it will. I think it will reveal that there is a problem there. These are the only two sponsorship programs we are aware of. It’s quite possible they’ve been involved in other sponsorship programs of questionable value, and it will be revealed, and hopefully this agency and others will no that the public expects public agencies to spend money wisely.”Marchese says Metrolinx should focus on making an integrated transit system across the GTA, and says sponsorship programs like this will not give them the credibility to do the job.

Annan calls on business leaders to bridge the digital divide in poor

“Information technology is not a magic formula or panacea. But it is a powerful force that can and must be harnessed to our global mission of peace and development,” Mr. Annan said in a message to “The Net World Order: bridging the Global Digital Divide” conference in New York hosted by the Business Council for the UN.The two-day conference, which kicked off today, seeks to link technology innovation with UN efforts to expand information technology access in developing countries. It is being held at the first United States trade show that emphasizes the entire spectrum – systems, applications, networking and telecommunications – of information and communications technology products and services. The swift emergence of a global “information society” is changing the way people live, learn, work and relate – creating new choices and opportunities in some of the most vital realms of human endeavour – yet too many of the world’s people remain untouched by this revolution, Mr. Annan said in a message delivered by Amire Dossal, Executive Director UN Fund for International Partnerships.”Timely access to news and information can promote trade, education, employment, health and wealth,” Mr. Annan said. “One of the hallmarks of the information society – openness – is a crucial ingredient of democracy and good governance. Information and knowledge are also at the heart of efforts to strengthen tolerance, mutual understanding and respect for diversity.”He urged the business leaders to get involved in the World Summit on the Information Society in December, saying it “offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the information society so that all people can enjoy these benefits.”
