first_imgREVEALED: Why Klopp and Liverpool passed on Pulisicby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool boss Jurgen Klopp chose to pass on signing Christian Pulisic due to the form of Xherdan Shaqiri.Chelsea have signed the Borussia Dortmund winger for £58m in the last 24 hours. And the Liverpool Echo says the reality is that Liverpool haven’t seriously considered a move for Pulisic since they bought Shaqiri for £12.5million last summer. The Swiss attacker was the Pulisic alternative and he was snapped up at an absolute bargain price. Shaqiri has proved to be a massive hit at Anfield. The 27-year-old has only started 11 matches for the Reds but has already chipped in with six goals, including a match-winning double against Manchester United.Pulisic is still more potential than proven quality having scored 15 goals in 115 games for Dortmund. He has only netted three times in 18 club appearances so far this term. The size of the fee was also prohibitive. Liverpool wouldn’t buy a squad player for £58million and they certainly wouldn’t pay that for a squad player who had less than 18 months remaining on his contract. first_imgEverton boss Marco Silva annoyed after Bournemouth lossby Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the loveEverton boss Marco Silva was annoyed with his defence in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Bournemouth.Callum Wilson stole the show with a barnstorming double at Vitality Stadium, which was sandwiched in between goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ryan Fraser.”It’s a disappointing result, of course. We didn’t deserve more after the mistakes,” admitted Silva. “We conceded the three goals so easy. I don’t want to take away the credit from Bournemouth but it was our fault. We had good offensive moments in the game but the way we conceded the goals made a big impact.”We reacted well to their first goal. We started the second half doing what we planned, creating dangerous chances around their box but then they scored from one mistake from a set piece and were clinical.”We have to become again that solid team that we were towards the end of last season and at the start of the season when we had 10 clean sheets in 13 games. We created chances and should have scored more but when you defend like that you are not going to win the game.”It was a lack of focus. We addressed these type of moments last season. We were solid at the start of this season and we need to be more solid again. It’s something we must address as fast as we can. We’ve been a solid team before and I don’t see any reasons why we can’t be again.”Last season we improved our away form from the season before but we want to do better than that. We created problems for them, created spaces but conceding goals like that makes you lose confidence.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Messi: Another Copa now begins for Argentina

first_imgLionel Messi has declared that “another Copa begins now” for Argentina after seeing them scrape their way into the quarter-finals.An opening defeat to Colombia and disappointing draw with Paraguay had left the Albiceleste sweating on progress to the knockout stage. They were, however, to complete their Group B campaign with a welcome 2-0 victory over Qatar. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? That was enough to secure second spot behind Colombia, with Lautaro Martinez and Sergio Aguero grabbing priceless goals for Lionel Scaloni’s side.Much improvement is still required in order for Argentina to challenge for the overall prize in Brazil, but they have at least given themselves a chance.Messi is looking to take positives from that, with the Barcelona superstar now preparing for a last-eight encounter with Venezuela on Sunday. He told reporters after seeing off Qatar: “The important thing was to win to keep going in the Copa, to get through the group stage.”This will be an important boost for what’s to come … another Copa begins now.”This victory must give us strength and make us grow as a team.”Messi admitted that there had been nerves in the Argentina camp heading into a must-win encounter, adding: “It’s tough playing this kind of game due to the necessity, the obligation [to win], the fear of missing out.”But beyond that we played well and went through, which is what matters.”Sergio Kun Aguero Argentina Qatar Copa America 23062019Martinez ensured that Argentina got off to the perfect start inside four minutes.Manchester City striker Aguero than wrapped up the win eight minutes from time, with the 31-year-old recalled after being dropped for the 1-1 draw with Paraguay. He said: “Luckily I was picked to start and luckily at times the three of us worked well together and we won.”While happy to have progressed out of the group, Aguero is aware that Argentina will need to raise their game against Venezuela.Scaloni’s side suffered a 3-1 defeat to the same opponents the last time they squared off in a friendly contest back in March.”They’re quite tough opponents who counter-attack really well and we’ll try to be wise to that,” said Aguero.last_img read more

Simeone plays down rout over Real Madrid

first_imgAtletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone tried to stay grounded Friday’s stunning pre-season rout over Real Madrid.Atletico ran riot at the International Champions Cup after humiliating La Liga rivals Madrid 7-3 in New Jersey on Friday.Diego Costa scored a first-half hat-trick and four goals in total for Atletico, who led 5-0 at half-time, while Joao Felix netted his first goal since arriving from Benfica. It was a stunning performance at MetLife Stadium but Atletico head coach Simeone played down the result.”I do not rush to anything,” Simeone told reporters. “I live the reality of the moment. It was a good game. I see them with enthusiasm, optimism, enthusiasm. Now wait for the next game to rotate the players and get to La Liga.””I do not consider this match to be the reality of potential between each other,” added Simeone, whose Atletico finished second behind Barcelona in La Liga last season, ahead of Madrid.Atletico stormed out of the blocks after Costa opened the scoring inside 43 seconds before Joao Felix doubled the lead seven minutes later.Angel Correa and another Costa goal made it 4-0 by the 28th minute, with the latter completing his hat-trick via the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time.Costa netted his fourth six minutes into the second half before he was sent off, along with Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, as tempers boiled over.Diego Costa Atletico Madrid 2019-20“We prepared the game well. That has to be adjusted and try to add talent and effort. Today all the important teams have three or four talented players in the group.”Portuguese sensation Joao Felix showed there is life after Antoine Griezmann with a dazzling display, which included a goal and two assists for Atletico. On his big-money signing, Simeone added: “I see him better playing in front, with people ahead, so that with his vision of the game he can hurt.”When you have Joao’s talent and enthusiasm for improvement you can play anywhere.”last_img read more

Cole snubs Mourinho in picking best Chelsea boss

first_imgAshley Cole has snubbed Jose Mourinho when selecting his favourite Chelsea boss, with Carlo Ancelotti considered to have been the “number one”.The Blues were transformed into a dominant force domestically and serious contenders on the European stage by the legendary Portuguese coach.Cole, though, was to move to Stamford Bridge as Mourinho’s first spell at Chelsea began to unravel. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? The former England international did taste FA Cup and League Cup successes, but had to wait for a first Premier League title with the Blues.Ancelotti, as part of a double triumph, delivered that and Cole believes the Italian is the finest manager he worked with in west London. An iconic left-back who spent eight years with Chelsea, told the club’s official website when reflecting on his career: “I think the managers who suited my style were more attacking, which is how I had played at Arsenal.“When [Luiz Felipe] Scolari came in I felt at my best. I felt I blossomed under him and got back to playing with confidence.“Ancelotti was my number one. We played with tactics, obviously, but he gave you a freedom and I was able to attack. That double season in 2009-10 was probably my best season.“It was the most I scored in a season, I felt I was unbeatable in defence and was linking up with others well.“I had a great relationship with Florent Malouda on the left wing, JT [John Terry] next to me and Frank [Lampard] on that left side of the midfield three. I was able to make runs in behind and was always in dangerous spots inside the box.”Ashley Cole ChelseaCole, who was a product of Arsenal’s academy system, swapped one London giant for another in the summer of 2006 in a now infamous move. His decision to leave the Gunners was justified as he went on to collect an impressive trophy haul with the Blues, including a Champions League crown, and a man who has now slipped into retirement is happy with his choice.“I felt nerves,” Cole added on joining Chelsea.“I knew a lot of the players, but it was nerve-wracking coming to a new team with a new manager.“I was excited. It was a tough decision to make at the time, but I was eager to get going. I came to the club a little bit angry inside. I wanted to prove what I was worth, that I was good enough to play at the top and I wanted to keep on winning.“The Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ team was a team of winners with big personalities. But over time, the big players were leaving – Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp was finishing, Thierry Henry – and I wanted to be around a team that had that will and desire to win.“I’d played with Frank and John Terry with England, Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge, Shaun Wright-Phillips too, and I liked that mentality. They had won the league back to back and I wanted to be part of it. I was ready for it.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

New CBS NFL Mock Draft Has Raiders Trading Up To No. 1 For Kyler Murray

first_imgkyler murray looks to pass at the college football playoffMIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 29: Kyler Murray #1 of the Oklahoma Sooners carries the ball in the third quarter during the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium on December 29, 2018 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)The Arizona Cardinals have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and all of the options for what to do with it. They can take a pass rusher like Nick Bosa, they can kick quarterback Josh Rosen to the curb and draft Kyler Murray, or they can just trade the pick and let someone else draft Murray. Based on one mock draft, the third option could be the ideal option.According to a mock draft from CBS Sports NFL Writer Will Brinson, the Cardinals will trade the No. 1 overall pick the Oakland Raiders, who will make the jump from No. 5 overall.Brinson’s mock has the Raiders using their new pick to draft Murray. We are all talking about the Cardinals taking Kyler Murray with the first overall pick and I think that’s entirely possible/likely, but I do want to explore another universe — perhaps one the Cards like even more — where they get to keep their current quarterback, trade down and, you know, give him some help.It certainly seems to be a move that the Raiders are well-situated to make. They have three first round draft picks thanks to trades with the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys, and are the only team in the top-five with a truly-pressing need at the quarterback position.Brinson also noted with some irony that it was the Raiders that the Cardinals traded with to move up to No. 12 overall in 2018 to draft quarterback Josh Rosen. In this particular instance, I’m having the Raiders move all the way up to No. 1 overall, trading with the same team that they helped get Rosen last year, and the Cardinals moving down.Rosen went 3-10 as a starter as a rookie. The team wound up finishing with a league-worst 3-13 record, culminating in the firing of Steve Wilks and the hiring of Kliff Kingsbury as the new head coach.Curiously though, Brinson’s trade scenario does not include the Raiders trading either of their extra first-round picks to the Cardinals to make the trade happen. The incumbent Raiders quarterback is Derek Carr, who saw career-highs in completion percentage, and passing yards, but career-lows in touchdown passes.[CBS Sports]last_img read more

Tate Martell Reveals What Ohio State Told Him About A Transfer

first_imgtate martell holds a football during a campCORONADO, CA – MAY 27: Tate Martell of Ohio State University attends Steve Clarkson’s 13th Annual Quarterback Retreat on May 27, 2017 in Coronado, California. (Photo by Joe Scarnici/Getty Images)When former five-star quarterback recruit Justin Fields announced he was transferring to Ohio State this off-season, it didn’t surprise anyone that Tate Martell announced he was leaving the Buckeyes shortly thereafter. However, it appears Martell’s transfer had been in the works even before Fields’ decision. In a lengthy feature with ESPN’s Andrea Adelson, Martell, now vying for the starting quarterback spot at Miami, provided some more background on his departure from OSU. It turns out that the Ohio State staff first broached the possibility of a transfer.Martell backed up Dwayne Haskins as a redshirt freshman last fall and was banking on 2019 being the year he took over the reins in Columbus. However, after Urban Meyer stepped down, the situation changed. But when he arrived in Columbus, Ohio, Martell had J.T. Barrett and Dwayne Haskins in line ahead of him. Martell waited his turn, believing 2019 would be his year. Then Urban Meyer stepped down. Martell says he was told toward the end of the season he would be better off finding another school. Shortly after former No. 1 overall recruit Justin Fields announced he was transferring to Ohio State, Martell told the world he would transfer himself. It sounds like Ohio State was planning on going in a different direction even before Fields left Georgia, so Martell’s transfer appears to have worked out for both parties. Now with the Hurricanes, Martell is in a three-way battle for a starting role. He’ll have to fight off N’Kosi Perry and Jarren Williams to win the job.Reports coming out of Coral Gables indicated that Martell struggled mightily at times this spring, though he bounced back and performed well in the spring game. The quarterback competition is expected to continue into the summer as all three players adjust to new offensive coordinator Dan Enos.Miami opens up the 2019 season against Florida on August 24.last_img read more

CFB Expert Explains 2019 Alabama vs. Clemson Prediction

first_imgClemson and Alabama lines face off during national championship.SANTA CLARA, CA – JANUARY 07: Patrick Phibbs #58 of the Clemson Tigers snaps the ball against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP National Championship presented by AT&T at Levi’s Stadium on January 7, 2019 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)Clemson and Alabama faced off for the national title last season, and there’s a good chance they play a rematch this year. It would be the fifth-straight season the two programs have met, with four of those matchups coming with a national championship on the line. Most outlets have the Tigers ranked No. 1 in the preseason, with Alabama at No. 2. However, noted college football sage Phil Steele has it the other way around.Steele’s college football preview is out, and he put the Crimson Tide in the top spot. Appearing on “3 Man Front” on WJOX in Birmingham yesterday, he broke down why he did that.Basically, Steele like’s Alabama’s defense better than the Tigers’. “I’m gonna go with the overall defense,” Steele said, via 247Sports. “I know the defense didn’t look good in the last outing that Alabama was in. They got shredded for some 482 yards by Clemson, 471 yards by Oklahoma, and 454 yards by Georgia. But they have six returning starters. Last year’s secondary was very inexperienced. This year they’re more experienced. Clemson, meanwhile, defensively does lose four huge guys off that defensive line — all to the NFL and all early-round draft picks. They’re still going to have a good defense. They’re still going to have a good defensive line, but I think Alabama has a little better defense this year than Clemson.”It would be fun to test Steele’s reasoning out on the field in the College Football Playoff. Both teams will be favored in every regular season game they play this year. Clemson’s toughest two-game stretch is probably early on, with a home game against Texas A&M and a road trip to Syracuse in consecutive weeks in September.Alabama’s schedule is even more favorable. November is probably the toughest month, as it features road trips to Mississippi State and Auburn, with a home game against LSU and a cupcake vs. Western Carolina mixed in.It wouldn’t be surprising if both the Tigers and the Tide run the table again.last_img read more

Like many of his Australian counterparts, Warner doesn’t think twice about having a go at his opponents. With the one-year suspension due to expire on March 30, Warner has arrived in Hyderabad in a bid to showcase his hunger in the lead up to the 2019 World Cup.While the upcoming season of IPL will be crucial for the Australian opener when it comes to his return to international cricket, SRH are more than happy to have Warner back in the squad.Young all-rounder Deepak Hooda, speaking to indiatoday.in, said the entire Sunrisers camp feels more confident with David Warner returning to the side ahead of IPL 2019, starting March 23.”David Warner, obviously, has always been an inspiration for the team. His attitude has always been to lead from the front. The whole team enjoys with him and feels more confident. When an international player of his stature comes into the team it boosts the morale of the rest of the players as well,” Hooda said.Warner, who has been a prolific run-scorer in IPL, had led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their maiden title in 2016. Even last year we played the final under him. He spoke to the bowlers constantly, guided them in the death overs and made the correct field changes. All these small things matter a lot.”Hooda, who grabbed the limelight with his power-hitting at Rajasthan Royals in 2015, was bought by Sunrisers in the 2016 auction. I tend to focus on one thing at a time. Right now, my focus is completely on the IPL. If I perform well, then we will see where it takes me,” Hooda said.”When it comes to personal expectations, I want to fulfill whatever role the team wants me to play. There is a bit of pressure that is associated with an all-rounder. But at the end of the day, I want to enjoy cricket. That’s why I am playing the sport. Matt Henry and Trent Boult were running riot as the Manchester crowd, filled with a sea of blue, went quiet.”It would be unfair to pinpoint Rohit, but someone like KL Rahul, who had batted brilliantly in the last match. I just felt there was that slight nervous energy while they were defending also. You could see that in Virat also somewhere. He was eventually trapped by the ball coming in,” said Sachin.”If I have to notice something, the anxiety levels were high. There was pressure and in cricket, you will always be under pressure. Dhoni and Jadeja were going rather well but the pressure was there.””The strike rotation and running between the wickets with Jadeja was important. He is an experienced campaigner who knows when to push himself and save himself. The run out was for the team. New Zealand players make sombre homecoming after World Cup blow

first_imgNew Zealand players make sombre homecoming after World Cup blowNew Zealand Cricket chief executive David White had said due to logistical complications it would not be feasible to have a homecoming celebration for the World Cup runners-up team.advertisement Reuters WellingtonJuly 18, 2019UPDATED: July 18, 2019 11:08 IST New Zealand cricketers were shattered after losing the World Cup final due to inferior boundary count. (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSA group of rueful New Zealand players touched down on home soil after World Cup defeatPace bowler Trent Boult was among six Black Caps players making a low-key homecoming at AucklandNew Zealand ended up as the runners up of World Cup 2019 due to boundary count ruleA group of rueful New Zealand players touched down on home soil on Thursday, still coming to terms with the gut-wrenching defeat to England in the World Cup final.Pace bowler Trent Boult was among six Black Caps players making a low-key homecoming at Auckland airport, soaking up commiserations from a few fans and well-wishers.The left-armer was still haunted by the deflection off Ben Stokes’s bat in the 50th over that raced to the boundary and helped send the final into a Super Over before England claimed the win on the total boundaries scored.”It’s natural to nitpick, to wonder about all those little things and how it could have been a totally different game,” he told reporters at the airport.”I’ve been living that last over in my mind a lot somehow I got hit for six along the ground which has never happened before.”To see the scores level (after the Super Over) and still lose, yeah, that was a pretty unique situation.”England’s maiden World Cup title denied New Zealand their first but the class shown by Black Caps captain Kane Williamson and his players in defeat generated global acclaim.New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said she wanted to put on a home-coming celebration for the team but their different schedules and commitments have put the idea on ice for the time being.Boult said he was overwhelmed by the messages of support from the public.”We’ve just been on a plane 15 hours and there were a lot of Kiwis saying we felt for you’,” he said.advertisement”I didn’t really know what to say. Obviously, we’re all hurting and we’re sorry for letting everyone down.”I just want to get home, walk my dog along the beach and try to forget about it but it’s gonna be a hard one to swallow for the next couple of years.”Also Read | World Cup 2019: James Neesham’s childhood coach died during Super OverAlso Read | Sri Lanka Cricket set to make changes to coaching staff after Bangladesh ODI seriesAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Ranchi Test: India and Virat Kohli on the cusp of breaking records against South Africa

first_img Anita Jat RanchiOctober 18, 2019UPDATED: October 18, 2019 22:52 IST Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane during a training session ahead of their third Test against South Africa. (AP Photo)HIGHLIGHTSIndia took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the 3-match Test series against South Africa in the Pune TestIndia have never clean swept South Africa in TestsIndia captain Virat Kohli will also be looking to break more records in Ranchi TestAfter imposing a follow-on over South Africa in the Pune Test and inflicting an innings and 137-run defeat over the vistors, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match Test series. Having sealed the series already, Virat Kohli-led India side will be now looking for a whitewash in Ranchi to rewrite history.India have never clean swept South Africa in a Test series, though the two teams have been engaged in the longest format of the game against each other since past 27 years, having played the first Test series in 1992-23 and nine more after that. The last time the two sides played each other when India toured South Africa in 2017-18, the hosts won the 3-match series 2-1. Prior to that when India hosted the Freedom Trophy in 2015, the Indian side clinched the 4-match series 3-0 with a match drawn.South Africa lost the first two Tests of the ongoing series by humomgous margins– 203 runs (1st Test), 137 runs (2nd Test) and it will be an unmeasured task for them to figure out how to get themselves out of the deep hole they are in. The visiting side has failed in both the departments in the last two Tests. Neither have their batsmen showed consistency with the bat nor have their bolwers been able to create wicket-taking chances.Read: Wicketkeeping is a thankless jobKeshav Maharaj bowled 127 overs in the 2 Tests but he won’t be bowling more due to an injured shoulder. South Africa will also not have their usual opener Aiden Markram with them in Ranchi after fracturing his wrist in frustration following his second duck in Pune.advertisementBefore touring India, the turning tracks were a concern for the Proteas, something they were troubled by during their 2015 tour. However, South Africa were equally troubled by pace on the Vizag and Pune tracks as they lost 16 of their 40 wickets to the fast bowlers. If South Africa lose the 3rd Test as well, it will be only the third instance of them getting whitewashed in a series of 3 or more Tests since their re-admission after the end of the Apartheid era. Their previous two loses came gainst Australia in 2001-02 (away) and 2005-06 (home). While South Africa have a thread of worries, India, on the other hand, are almost sorted in every department. Virat Kohli, who has been in search of a Test century since long, smashed a double hundred in Pune — his first ton of the season. If India win the Ranchi Test to make it 3-0, Virat Kohli will surpass Graeme Smith as most successful Test captain involving India and South Africa. Also, if the swashbuckling batsman gets 44-plus runs in Ranchi, he will become only the 6th captain to have 5,000 Test runs.Though form and momentum remain to be on India’s side, Virat Kohli will still be hoping to win the toss in the last Test as well. While winning the toss alone is not the most decisive factor in the outcome of a Test, one cannot deny that it does have a bearing on the result, especially in the subcontinent.South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has now lost nine successive tosses in Asia and is desperate to even the odds for his team in Ranchi and open the World Test Championships account. For that, he might even send someone else in his place at toss on Saturday.”Probably will [send] somebody else to the toss tomorrow, I’ll give you that, because my record so far hasn’t been great,” du Plessis had said at the pre-match press-conference.Also Read | South Africa captain Faf du Plessis may send teammate at toss in Ranchi TestAlso Read | Injured Kuldeep Yadav out of Ranchi Test, local boy Shahbaz Nadeem added to India squadFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Trekking: Go from the trail to town with these 5 shirts

first_img Editors’ Recommendations The Best Best Big and Tall Men’s Clothing and Brands The Quietest and Loneliest Roads in America The Best Backpacking Gear for Men to Get You on the Trail in 2019 14 Scandinavian Clothing Brands You Need to Know The Best Men’s Heritage Outdoor Apparel for Cool Weather Man isn’t meant to stay indoors — our weekly “Trekking” column can attest to that. It’s a column dedicated to the adventurer inside of all of us, the one pining to ditch the office humdrum for a quick surf session or seven-week jaunt in the Grand Tetons. One day we may highlight an ultra-light stove and the next a set of handmade canoe paddles. Life doesn’t just happen inside the workplace, so get outside and live it.Just because something is practical doesn’t mean it has to be unattractive. That said, hiking and backpacking apparel frequently gets a bad rap, often sacrificing any essence of style and comfort in favor of technical fabrics that offer lightweight functionality on the trail. Most would look out of place if taken for a raucous night out on the town, but thankfully, there’s an entire swath of outdoor apparel that’s designed to rethink our idea of what we should wear both on and off the trail. Below are a few of our personal favorites that find function in fashion, whether talking mainstay short sleeves from Patagonia or Merino-laced wears from the grassy steppes of southern New Zealand.Related: Campsite Cuisine: 5 portable grills that actually cook great steakPatagonia Sol Patrol II ($75)The folks at Patagonia have always prided themselves in their penchant for versatility. Conveniently constructed of lightweight polyester, the company’s Sol Patrol II is the perfect example of why. The ripstop material drys quickly and thwarts the sun with 30-UPF protection, while offering a breathable mesh backing and numerous air vents for comfort in a host of demanding scenarios. The double-layer collar and zippered pocket on the right only add to its resourcefulness.Marmot Waldron SS ($50)Marmot’s Waldron SS is discrete yet stylish, and moreover, boats a regular fit that comes in four attractive patterns. It’s made of a lightweight performance fabric designed to quickly wick moisture from your body and pack down for maximum storage, capitalizing on a comfortable blend of Supplex nylon and environmentally-friendly, recycled polyester as it does. Furthermore, it comes outfitted with durable, flat-felled seams and UPF protection that allows only 1/50 of the sun’s UV rays through.Icebreaker’s Compass Short Sleeve ($145)Frankly, Icebreaker is the undisputed champion of all things Merino-related. The lauded woven — which comprises nearly 100 percent of the Compass Short Sleeve — allows for the utmost breathability, while providing moisture-wicking properties and retaining your warmth when wet. Mesh venting panels beneath both arms further increase air flow, too, but it’s the fact the material is designed to remain odor-free for days that truly sells it. Well, that, and the three attractive color offerings available.Mountain Hardwear Chiller Short Sleeve ($85)Mountain Hardwear’s aptly-titled Chiller is more in line with what you’d expect Edward Abbey to wear while romping around the desert. The short-sleeve, quick drying shirt uses a technology that actually works to lower the fabric’s temperature when you’re sweating, while rotated seems and flip-up collar consistently work to prevent chafing and shelter you from the sun. The fabric is also wrinkle-resistant, meaning you can head from the trail to tapas without an ironing board or hesitation.Arc’Teryx Adventus Comp SS ($100)Don’t let the big, bold colors and the premium price of Arc’Teryx’s Adventus Comp SS deter you — it’s one of the best hiking wears around. The streamlined shirt utilizes a welcome combination of Diem polyester and Phasic SL paneling to repel moisture and ensure proper ventilation, and the zippered chest pocket provides just enough space for a map or license for a post-hike round of drinks. The lamented straight hem and contemporary snaps even adds a touch of modern to an otherwise traditional build.last_img read more

We focus on combining classic garment construction techniques, natural materials, and contemporary technologies to provide first class on-mountain fit and protection.Related: Show off your school spirit in premium style with Hillflint For those not keen on hibernation, Alps & Meters has created a line inspired by simple, timeless alpine traditions, focusing on garments that fuse high-quality materials with classic construction methods. The result: A line of jackets, trousers, sweaters, and accessories tailored with contemporary technologies that deliver optimum fit and the necessary protection whether simply braving the frigid outdoors or eclipsing the Swiss Alps.Pieces include the Shawl Collar Jacket, combining traditional knitwear and rich leatherwork with waterproof contemporary technologies, the Alpine Winter Trouser, marrying a blended wool water repellent exterior with interior waterproof membrane, the Alpine Anorak, featuring a fortified British Millerain waxed canvas exterior, modeled on historic design worn by the US 10th Mountain Division Alpinists, and the Alpine Guide Sweater, which combines the engineered comfort of lambswool knitwear with waxed cotton. The collection also feature additional alpine sport-inspired accessories including the Classic Pom Hat made from 100% lambswool and the Alpine Winter Collar, tailored with a signature performance cut, maximizing both warmth and protection.“My favorite piece from our current collection is the Shawl Collar Jacket,” Joseph tells us. “This particular product was the very first style concept created by Alps & Meters; its unique combination of knitwear body, protective leather paneling, and internal windproof/waterproof membrane were all originally inspired by the vintage ski sweater found in Are, Sweden. Overall, the Shawl Collar Jacket embodies the traditional and authentic values of the Alps & Meters brand.”The collection ranges in price from $52 to $1095.
