first_imgELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth boys’ soccer team came back from a halftime deficit Saturday to record its second win of the season with a 6-3 road triumph against Foxcroft.After Foxcroft took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, Ellsworth bounced back to pull ahead 2-1 with goals from Pascal Poirier and Nate Mason. Yet the Ponies (4-8) would score twice in the final 12 minutes of the half to take a 3-2 lead into the break.In the second half, Ellsworth’s Carter Frank tied the game on a goal with 26 minutes, 2 seconds remaining. After Mason added two more goals midway through the half, Frank scored again with 12 minutes to go as the Eagles (2-9-1) reached the six-goal mark for the second time in the past four seasons.The win propelled the Eagles from 19th place to 16th, two spots shy of the final playoff position. Ellsworth faces Washington Academy (8-4) at 4 p.m. Wednesday in East Machias and will finish off its regular season at home against Mount Desert Island at 6 p.m. next Monday, Oct. 15.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textSumner boys beat Bangor Christian, CalaisThe Sumner boys’ team continued its strong season in Class C North with a win over Bangor Christian on Friday and a decisive victory against Calais on Monday.Caelan Billings led the way for Sumner on Friday with three goals and an assist in the team’s 5-1 home win over Bangor Christian. Eduardo Figueroa and Orlando Herrera also scored for the Tigers.Three days later, Sumner improved to 11-1 with a blowout win over Calais (5-7) in Washington County. Damon Warren scored six goals for the Tigers, and Billings, Figueroa, Aidan Weaver and Dylan Bernier also scored in the 10-0 win.Sumner will play its next game on the road against Narraguagus at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. The team closes out the regular season at home against Bucksport at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.last_img
